Important Session Changes 2018

Managers Announcement

Hello everyone,

I would like to welcome you back to the Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink for 2018.

In February, the focus of the world will be on Pyeong Chang in Korea for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. We are excited for the growth of ice sports in Australia, and anticipate an influx of new participants into our fantastic ice sports activities.

For this reason, the rink has undertaken some important changes including a review of operational ice scheduling for 2018 for all disciplines.

The following changes will be implemented commencing Saturday 3rd February 2018.

  • A new and improved model of the COIR Skate School will be implemented from 3rd February 2018. Focus will be on skill development and emphasis on progression into our ice sports disciplines and private/specialized coaching lessons.
  • Our current Saturday ice schedule of activities and payment arrangements from 7.45am has been confusing for staff, coaches and rink patrons alike. We have re-configured the ice from 7.45am onwards with a view to maximizing use and simplifying payments for sessions. Please see session times here. (link)
  • There will be a more effective use of underutilized ice time (affecting Public Sessions weekdays now 12:30pm – 2:30pm).
  • Earlier start/finish times for afternoon Figure Skating sessions, Ice Hockey and Short Track Speed Skating sessions improving ice availability and usage.

If you have any questions regarding these changes please direct all enquiries to admin@canterburyolympicicerink.org.au

Late last year, the rink underwent some insulation building modifications which have improved ice conditions, particularly during the heat of the summer months. These improvements also provide energy saving costs now, and into the future. Together with solar panels and LED lighting, the rink is progressing steadily into the future with cost effective initiatives minimizing operational commitments.

As a Not for Profit Co-Operative ice rink, this is vital for our continued sustainability well into the future.

On behalf of myself, Directors and staff, I thank you for your continued support and wish you all a very happy, healthy and successful 2018.

Sincerely,

Wayne Disbery
